Spring Monitoring 2021

Oceanside Conservation Trust has ownership or Easement interests in open space properties on several of the islands in western Casco Bay.  Once a year, a team from the Board of Directors monitors those interests.  We traditionally do this in May before the island communities – or the Directors! - get too busy enjoying Summer.  May 27 was the date for checking out the parcels on Peaks Island; Little Diamond, Long, College and Cliff Islands will fill out the rest of 2021’s OCT Monitoring Week.

Diamonds in the Rough

July 2020

As we’ve all come to consider way too many times over this past troubled Spring of 2020, things have been extraordinarily different. And difficult.

Yet, within the Little Diamond Island community, a great accomplishment has still taken place – rough times or no. A major Celebration is now certainly warranted. Unfortunately, however, we will not get to physically experience this success story at what would be our “normal” Annual Meeting time later in July. But as a teaser, we can today capsulize this amazing effort and then hopefully plan on an actual celebratory event in the Fall. Stay tuned...

This year’s Annual Meeting featured a special presentation from Heather McCargo, Founder and Executive Director of The Wild Seed Project. Heather is an educator with 30 years of experience in plant propagation, landscape design, horticulture, and conservation.

The following are highlights from Heather’s slide presentation at the meeting and from her numerous publications. As stewards of over 90 acres of preserved land in Casco Bay, OCT recognizes the importance of Heather’s work to all of us who care about our environment.
